Ortwin graduated with a business degree in 1965 and, in the following 3 years, completed his doctorate in business studies. In 1969 he began his working career with Österreichische Investitionskredit AG. Some years later he moved to the project evaluaton department of the Creditanstalt Bank. Then, in 1974, he became a department head and manager (Prokura) at Banque de Credit SA in Brussels.

 

After a period abroad he returned to the Creditanstalt where he occupied various managerial positions. In these positions he was involved in activities in numerous areas, including export financing, project financing, international business and risk management. He was appointed managing director of the Bank Austria-Creditanstalt Leasing Group in 1995.

 

Since 2003 Ortwin has been serving as an advisor to the board of BA-CA and has also been serving on the boards of various other companies.
